What are some examples of adaptive boats my program or club might consider utilizing?
Boats widely used in adaptive sailing include, but are not limited to, the following. For a descriptive list from Disabled Sports USA click here.
2.4mRs are highly technical singlehanded boats.
They are raced throughout the world and are popular among both able bodied sailors and adaptive sailors.

Sonars are triplehanded boats sailed by able bodied and adaptive athletes alike.
Sonars can be adapted in a mileu of ways to accomodate various disabilities. Example adaptions include seating, steering, benches and stability bars.

A Martin 16 is an excellent boat for sailors who enjoy the sport, like to compete in regattas and may want to bring a companion with them sailing.
Martin 16s are very popular in Canada and can also be found on both the East (Burlington AbleSail for example) and West Coasts (Challenged Sailors San Diego for example) of the United States.

Hansa 303s are an easily sailed boat, with several available modifications for sailiors with adaptive needs.
Freedom 20s are a great addition to the world of adaptive sailing.
These 20 foot keelboats can be adapted in many ways, some of which include: chairs that pivot from bench to bench, a jib-boom, and rebound steering for blind sailors.
These boats are most common in learn to sail programs and are rarely seen racing. Ideal for a crew of 3-4 people, Freedoms transition well into sonars and other racing boats.

Ideal 18s are great boats for sailors new to the sport, or those who enjoy competition and cruising. Ideal 18s are often Yacht Club owned fleet boats, and as such are often provided to the sailors at regattas, such as the Robie Pierce Regatta.
